week 23: somethin different...

ok it seems like since i started putting music on the site, i've been leaning more towards hip-hop/r&b/jazz influenced sounds. but i know a lot of people, including me, are into a lot more than just those genres. i dont even agree with genres, i just say listen to everything that sounds ill. so this week i'm gonna put up some "rock" (i guess if u want to categorize it). most of it's pretty mellow, but its damn nice music, really chill..

also i found a new server to host the files so i'm gonna test it out and see how it goes, instead of using rapidshare. for these new links just right-click the "download it" link and goto "Save Target As" or "Save Link As", a LOT easier than before.

alrite enjoy this week's music.

OutKast - You May Die (Intro)
download it
this is the opening track off of OutKast's "ATLiens" album. so mellow, i've been searching for the original sample all day but I can't figure out what it is. someone help me with that, i'll give you a dollar (yea i'm ballin). anyways this track was produced by Organized Noize and has Joi Gilliam singing in this near-hypnotic tone, with an amazing soft instrumental in the background. i NEED to know what was sampled for this song, it was sampled on a couple other songs too like "The City" by Young Buck and a remix of "December 4th" by Jay-Z. definitely a must-download although it's a pretty short track. "you can be sure, some go low to get high, you may hurt til you cry, you may die, keep on tryin, til it's summer in the city, til it's summer in the city..."

The Eagles - Hotel California (Acoustic Live)
download it
this is a classic. if you don't have this then add it to your collection right now. dirty dirty dirty guitars. that all i have to say. if you don't know this song, or even THIS version of the song, you've been deprived. just download it. "welcome to the hotel california, such a lovely place, such a lovely face..."

Red Hot Chili Peppers - Strip My Mind
download it
ok so i just got a copy of the new Red Hot Chili Peppers album called "Stadium Arcadium" and i've been listening to it all day, trust me this cd is amazing. it's vintage Chili Peppers for sure, really really good songs on this album that i had to put 2 of them in today's update. this song is really chill and the guitar solo that starts at 3:49 is so crazy. there's so much to be heard in this and all of their songs in terms of lyrics and music. "please dont strip my mind, leave something behind..."

Sixto Rodriguez - Sugar Man
download it
in last week's update i put up a track by Nas called "You're The Man". that track was produced by Large Professor who sampled this song by Sixto Rodriguez off his 1969 album "Cold Fact". he flipped the vocal saying "sugar man.." into "you're the man" for the Nas song. the original is really dope too though, a psychedelic folk song about drug dealers (yea it aint just rappers that talk about drugs). "sugar man, wont you hurry, coz im tired of these scenes, for a blue coin, wont you bring back, all those colours to my dreams..."

Red Hot Chili Peppers - Desecration Smile
download it
another track off of the new "Stadium Arcadium" album. classic vibe, really really interesting lyrics in this track, and the instrumentals are nice too, but what i really like is the range in vocals throughout the track, providing contrasts and emphasizing certain phrases in the verses and hooks. definitely grab this track too. "disintegrated by the rising sun, i'm rolling back into oblivion, and I'd like to think that I'm your number one, but i (roll back into oblivion)..."

Incubus - Southern Girl
download it
this track is really really dope, off the "A Crow Left To The Murder" album. gotta thank the person who gave me this song, coz i listen to it once in a while just to vibe out and relax. really amazing guitar solo at 1:19, i even had that solo as a ringtone haha. but yea, the lyrics are amazing on this track too. hope everyone likes it, this is a must have too. "you're an exception to the rule, you're a bonafide rarity, you're all i ever wanted, southern girl, could you want me..."

week 22: pure randomness...

okay so this is a no description update. and true to the name of the site, just 8 random tracks. some old, some new, some rap, some r&b, some eccentric shiet.

check it out. definitely get that Gnarls Barkley if u dont already have it (that album is NUTS), and the Joe track is BIG (Tim & Bob sampled the beat from Nas - You're The Man, which I also uploaded). the Mya cut is dope too, some Tim & Bob production on that as well. matter of fact all the tracks are nice.

enough talk. just listen.

week 21: what yall really know about the dirty south?...

ahh man as much as i love wildin out to some of the music comin out of the durrty south, and there are some real dope emcees down there to go along with their share of idiots (D4L im talkin to YOU), i gotta say that none of these cats are doin it the way the Dungeon Family was doin' it for so long. Goodie Mob and OutKast completely destroyed everything on the radio when they debuted.

so for this update im just hittin u with straight OutKast.. some of my favourite songs by them.. there are a LOT more than just the few im puttin up from their first 3 albums, but to understand that yall gotta go get that shiet.

enjoy this, some raw hip-hop. one.

OutKast - Southernplayalisticadlliacmuzik
download it
damnnn, the title cut off of 'Kast's 1994 debut album "Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik", this track is BANGIN. like it doesnt get funkier than this, pure chillin in the summer bang in ur car track. its crazy to think how NUTS andre benjamin was on the mic, and big boi was on some crazyness too. this is how i like to remember OutKast.. straight raw. "so copy my slang and bite my shit, but dont try gafflin me, cause sleepin you'll get served with some southern hospitality..."
*Bonus: Watch the video for this track here. Classic.

OutKast - Player's Ball
download it
back before all the talk about pimpin' thats takin over the radio these days, THIS track was the ORIGINAL pimp anthem. the flows on this joint are insane. and that chorus just solidifies the cut even more. again off "Southernplayalisticadlliacmuzik". "all the players came, from far and wide, wearin afros and braids, kickin them gangsta rides..."

OutKast - Git Up, Git Out (feat. Goodie Mob)
download it
even with all the gangsta talk on "Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik", 'Kast still found time to drop a song to enlighten folks. this cut featuring their Dungeon Family brothers the Goodie Mob, and damn yall just need to listen to this to understand what they are talkin about. makes u wonder why these new south artists arent doing more cuts like this (and YES this was a single). "you need to get up get out and get somethin, dont let the days of your life pass by, you need to get up get out and get somethin, dont spend all your time tryina get high..."

OutKast - Babylon
download it
on their 1996 album "ATLiens", OutKast took a turn in another direction, less on that gangsta tip and more on what seemed like a spiritual journey through space. this entire album is classic, but this track just haunts me. its crazy. just chill back and listen to the lyrics. "i came into this world high as a bird, from second hand cocaine powder, i know it sounds absurd, i never tooted but its in my veins..."

OutKast - Return Of The "G"
download it
the opening track off of the 1998 album "Aquemini", Andre just rips it. that's all i can say. he addresses all the critics that were wondering why they switched up their steez on ATLiens. just listen to this track. "return of the gangsta, thanks ta, them niggas that think you soft, and say yall be gospel rappin, but they be steady clappin when you talk about bitches and switches and hoes and clothes and weed, lets talk about time travellin, rhyme javelin, somethin mind unravelin, get down..."

OutKast - Aquemini
download it
this is the title cut off of "Aquemini" and i put it up for one reason. a lesson in flow. when that beat cuts out and comes back in at 3:18.. listen to Big Boi, but then listen to Andre. thats all im gonna say. cot damn. "my mind warps and bends, floats the wind, count to ten, meet the twin, andre ben, welcome to the lions den, original skin, many men, comprehend, i extend myself, so u go out and tell a friend, sin, all depends, on what u believin in, faith is what u make it thats the hardest shit since mc ren, alien can blend, right on in, with ur kin, look again, coz i swear i spot one every now and then, its happenin again, wish i could tell u when, andre, this is andre, yall is just gon have to make amends..."

OutKast - Liberation (feat. Cee-Lo, Erykah Badu, & Big Rube)
download it
im not even gonna write a description. u need this song. thats it. "there's a fine line between love and hate you see, and baby i'm on it, cant worry bout what a nigga think now see, that's Liberation and baby i'm on it..."

OutKast - Chonkyfire
download it
this is how u end off a record. the closing track on "Aquemini". just a short song with an insane beat, addressing all the haters. the track fades out with an audio clip from the 1995 Source Awards when they accepted their award for Best New Rap Group and got booed by the New York crowd. what Andre says at the very end is crazy, "yea first of all youknowhatimsayin, i wanna thank God, just coz youknowhatimsayin im dead serious coz if it wasnt for him youknowhatimsayin we wouldnt be here.. but its like this though.. i'm tired of folks, youknowhatimsayin, closed-minded folks knowhatimsayin, its like we got a demo tape that dont nobody wanna hear it, but its like this the south got somethin to say, and thats all i gotta say..", so ill. "we reign, reign supreme, preme, dungeon, dungeon kings, do u kno what brings rats, mice, snakes, up out of they hole, chonkyfire, spliced, with rock n roll, indubitably, piper pied, now hold on my brother no no no no cant stop the stride..."

week 20: break from exams...

i had to skip a week again coz of exams. taught myself the entire semester of organic chemistry in three days. i guess i should go to lectures. ah well.

anyways, this week im just layin down some very nice r&b. and when i say its nice, just trust me on it.

only 5 tracks coz i dont have much time, im doin this and then trying to sleep.

shout out to Mo for the headphones, so i can listen to music again, stupid hypersensitive roommate with his bitching about the bass. cot damn, the bass is OFF u little biatch. shiet.

Kelli Sae - Daydreamin'
download it
wow this track is nice, it's off the DJ Jazzy Jeff compilation called "The Soul Mixtape". That entire mix cd is so damn good, i had it on perma-repeat at the library today. wow i was actually at the library... anyways some nice soulful music to play at night in the summer. actually all the songs on this update are pure summer night songs. gotta prep, 2 more weeks till summer break. "daydreamin and i'm thinkin of u..."

Sergio Mendes - Berimbau Consolacao (feat. Stevie Wonder & Gracinha Leporace)
download it
nice chillllled out track from Sergio Mendes' new album called "Timeless". man this song is so dope, u could either just vibe out to it or get ur salsa on or watever. nice latin flavour, too bad i dont know what any of the lyrics are saying, but im sure its somethin along the lines of 'damn this track is ill'. Sergio is a nice Brazillian piano player and Gracinha is soooo soulful on this. Stevie Wonder isnt singing, he's playing harmonica on this track and i'm blown away. "capoeira me mandou dizer que ja chegou, chegou para lutar..."

Robin Thicke - Lost Without You
download it
wow robin thicke with ANOTHER nice song off his upcoming album "The Evolution of Robin Thicke". this track is overflowing with soul, and that guitar kills it. like i said before, im a sucka for guitars. "lost without you, can't help myself, how does it feel?, to know that i love u baby.."

Eijay - Beautiful Lady
download it
this is the opening track on "The Soul Mixtape" by DJ Jazzy Jeff and it definitely deserves to kick off that cd. if u can get ur hands on it, definitely do so, its so chill. anyways, this track has that old school jazz feel to it, the piano is crazy, and that chorus is near hypnotic, man im hittin u guys off with some BIG tracks this week. "beautiful lady be mine, ur lookin at me like u dont even kno that ur fine..."

Nujabes - Mystline
download it
in the first update i ever did i put a Nujabes instrumental up. well here's another one from these japanese producers, again off the Samurai Champloo soundtrack disc called "Departures". i had to slow it down a bit. that piano is trance-inducing, but its so chill for a summer night. i cant wait till summer rolls around, make some loot, have barbecues, and just relax. get this track for sure, its gonna make u think of stayin up at tim hortons till 6am havin some dope conversation for no reason after jammin. good memories.
