week 21: what yall really know about the dirty south?...

ahh man as much as i love wildin out to some of the music comin out of the durrty south, and there are some real dope emcees down there to go along with their share of idiots (D4L im talkin to YOU), i gotta say that none of these cats are doin it the way the Dungeon Family was doin' it for so long. Goodie Mob and OutKast completely destroyed everything on the radio when they debuted.

so for this update im just hittin u with straight OutKast.. some of my favourite songs by them.. there are a LOT more than just the few im puttin up from their first 3 albums, but to understand that yall gotta go get that shiet.

enjoy this, some raw hip-hop. one.

OutKast - Southernplayalisticadlliacmuzik
download it
damnnn, the title cut off of 'Kast's 1994 debut album "Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik", this track is BANGIN. like it doesnt get funkier than this, pure chillin in the summer bang in ur car track. its crazy to think how NUTS andre benjamin was on the mic, and big boi was on some crazyness too. this is how i like to remember OutKast.. straight raw. "so copy my slang and bite my shit, but dont try gafflin me, cause sleepin you'll get served with some southern hospitality..."
*Bonus: Watch the video for this track here. Classic.

OutKast - Player's Ball
download it
back before all the talk about pimpin' thats takin over the radio these days, THIS track was the ORIGINAL pimp anthem. the flows on this joint are insane. and that chorus just solidifies the cut even more. again off "Southernplayalisticadlliacmuzik". "all the players came, from far and wide, wearin afros and braids, kickin them gangsta rides..."

OutKast - Git Up, Git Out (feat. Goodie Mob)
download it
even with all the gangsta talk on "Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik", 'Kast still found time to drop a song to enlighten folks. this cut featuring their Dungeon Family brothers the Goodie Mob, and damn yall just need to listen to this to understand what they are talkin about. makes u wonder why these new south artists arent doing more cuts like this (and YES this was a single). "you need to get up get out and get somethin, dont let the days of your life pass by, you need to get up get out and get somethin, dont spend all your time tryina get high..."

OutKast - Babylon
download it
on their 1996 album "ATLiens", OutKast took a turn in another direction, less on that gangsta tip and more on what seemed like a spiritual journey through space. this entire album is classic, but this track just haunts me. its crazy. just chill back and listen to the lyrics. "i came into this world high as a bird, from second hand cocaine powder, i know it sounds absurd, i never tooted but its in my veins..."

OutKast - Return Of The "G"
download it
the opening track off of the 1998 album "Aquemini", Andre just rips it. that's all i can say. he addresses all the critics that were wondering why they switched up their steez on ATLiens. just listen to this track. "return of the gangsta, thanks ta, them niggas that think you soft, and say yall be gospel rappin, but they be steady clappin when you talk about bitches and switches and hoes and clothes and weed, lets talk about time travellin, rhyme javelin, somethin mind unravelin, get down..."

OutKast - Aquemini
download it
this is the title cut off of "Aquemini" and i put it up for one reason. a lesson in flow. when that beat cuts out and comes back in at 3:18.. listen to Big Boi, but then listen to Andre. thats all im gonna say. cot damn. "my mind warps and bends, floats the wind, count to ten, meet the twin, andre ben, welcome to the lions den, original skin, many men, comprehend, i extend myself, so u go out and tell a friend, sin, all depends, on what u believin in, faith is what u make it thats the hardest shit since mc ren, alien can blend, right on in, with ur kin, look again, coz i swear i spot one every now and then, its happenin again, wish i could tell u when, andre, this is andre, yall is just gon have to make amends..."

OutKast - Liberation (feat. Cee-Lo, Erykah Badu, & Big Rube)
download it
im not even gonna write a description. u need this song. thats it. "there's a fine line between love and hate you see, and baby i'm on it, cant worry bout what a nigga think now see, that's Liberation and baby i'm on it..."

OutKast - Chonkyfire
download it
this is how u end off a record. the closing track on "Aquemini". just a short song with an insane beat, addressing all the haters. the track fades out with an audio clip from the 1995 Source Awards when they accepted their award for Best New Rap Group and got booed by the New York crowd. what Andre says at the very end is crazy, "yea first of all youknowhatimsayin, i wanna thank God, just coz youknowhatimsayin im dead serious coz if it wasnt for him youknowhatimsayin we wouldnt be here.. but its like this though.. i'm tired of folks, youknowhatimsayin, closed-minded folks knowhatimsayin, its like we got a demo tape that dont nobody wanna hear it, but its like this the south got somethin to say, and thats all i gotta say..", so ill. "we reign, reign supreme, preme, dungeon, dungeon kings, do u kno what brings rats, mice, snakes, up out of they hole, chonkyfire, spliced, with rock n roll, indubitably, piper pied, now hold on my brother no no no no cant stop the stride..."
