week 25: the summer steez...

this update was influenced by the fact that the weather is too dope right now, nice and sunny with a beautiful light breeze. on top of that it's mother's day, and i just got back from takin out ma dukes for lunch with the fam and we had some good jokes. basically it's a damn good spring/summer day. so this week i'm breakin u off with some joints that are perfect for a day like this when ur just enjoying the weather. i gotta make this quick coz i wanna go back outside.

enjoy.

Busta Rhymes - New York Shit (Marley Marl Remix feat. KRS-1)
download it
damn now THIS is a banger. Marley Marl COMPLETELY flipped the feel of the original and gave it that hard classic boom bap sound, definitely gonna be pumpin loud with the windows down in the ride. and then u got KRS doin his thang on the track too. definitely somethin HOT for the summer. yea i have a new york bias coz i love that city, i love sauga and toronto too dont get me wrong, but new york is the king of this shiet. "i'm on my new york shit.."

The Roots - You Got Me (Me Tienes Remix)
download it
well if u havent heard the original You Got Me by The Roots from the "Things Fall Apart" album, then I really feel sorry for you. but anyways, here's the illll latin vibed remix with that boom bap bass once again. the chorus is a niiiice flip of the original lyrics into spanish, not sure who the singer is but she sounds nice. grab this, some more ridin music or just good bbq music. "i deal with the real, if it's artificial let it be..."

Sleepy Brown - Margarita (feat. Pharrell Williams & Big Boi)
download it
alright some more somewhat latin-tinged music from Sleepy Brown, Pharrell, and Big Boi. dope song, very nice chill vibe, smooth vocals, somethin to play during a bbq for sure or even just at night at a good jam with everyone dancing and having a nice time. "it's time to play, name the place i'll meet ya, we could do the bar, sip margaritas..."

Drex Inkredible - Tell Em (Remix feat. Mayhem Morearty)
download it
first off, DON'T sleep on this track. for those that dont kno, Drex Inkredible is a dope emcee coming out of Toronto and so is Mayhem Morearty. my brother schooled me to this track, definitely a pretty dope cut. Drex is the featured artist for this month on Hip Hop Canada and my bro did that interview with him on the site. Pretty nice track with a chilled out beat and r&b chorus about what's been goin on in toronto in terms of all the violence, Mayhem has a nice guest spot too, i'll post more by him in a later update. "don't let the world tell you who you are, tell the world who you are don't be a fraud, and if ur boys try and bring u down, leave em on they own u dont need those peeps around..."

OutKast - In Due Time (feat. Cee-Lo)
download it
ah i caught the video to this track on Vintage Vibe and it brought back some good memories of grade 8. i don't know if anyone remembers this track off the "Soul Food" soundtrack, it was one of the very few hip-hop cuts on there. this track is just so soulful, with Cee-Lo on the hook and contributing a verse, and 'Kast doing what they do best - flowing with some real meaningful lyrics fo sho. definitely a summer joint, bbq/chillin music. "just keep your faith in me, don't act impatiently, you'll get there when you need to be, in due time..."

Slakah The BeatChild - Enjoy Ya Self (Version 2)
download it
my homeboy larry schooled me onto some songs by this Toronto artist by the name of Slakah The BeatChild. this guy just got signed to Universal and is gonna be releasing some dope r&b. this song that i've uploaded is very very chill, that beat, i dont know how to describe it, it just sounds so nice. definitely get this track, Slakah has a smooth voice, kinda reminiscent of Musiq, and this track is PURE summer night hotness. "enjoy ya self..."

Punjabi MC - Raat Da Na Bole (Summertime Remix)
download it
okay so normally i'm not that big a fan of bhangra, even tho i'm brown. but this track just stuck out for some reason. it's pretty old, but its really sick. the flutes that open up the track are too nice, then the beat from "Summertime" by DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince drops in and just blows the track out the water. the vocals are originally by Surinder Sonia. this is some good time bbq music for sure, especially if you're brown. this track just makes me wanna lounge back and just enjoy the weather.. grab this track FO SHO.

Tony Toni Tone - It Never Rains In Southern California (All The Way Live)
download it
slowin it down a bit, this is an older cut by Tony Toni Tone, but its so damn smooth. i wish they released another full album. this is a dope song to just play late at night once ur done havin a good time at the bbq and are just loungin with ur girl and uh.. "talking".. yea. anyways, grab this track, its so soulful with the dope bass in the background and that sax. i miss Raphael Saadiq, that cat needs to drop another album quicktime. "it never rains in southern california..."

--BONUS TRACK--
Tony Toni Tone - It Never Rains In Southern California (Raphael's Rap)
download it
alright same song as above, a bit heavier bass, with Saadiq lacing some smooth raps, and this beat sounds like its got more guitar on it. DOPE track too, get it. again u can.. uh.. "talk".. to ur girl while listenin to this. haha. enjoy.
